Why should you learn a language?
If you enjoy communicating with other people, finding out how language works and learning about different countries and cultures, studying a language is an excellent choice for you.

  • You will be able to share your interests, ideas, and opinions with other people who speak French, German and Spanish
  • You will learn about the countries where French, German and Spanish are spoken and get a lot more out of a trip there.
  • You will be exposed to authentic French, German and Spanish resources.
  • You will add an international dimension to your choice of GCSE subjects, which is something future employers and higher education providers look for.
  • You will learn many skills which are useful in a wide range of future careers, such as the ability to communicate clearly, confidence in public speaking and how to use a range of problem solving strategies.
  • You will create greater opportunities for yourself to work abroad, or for companies in the UK with international links.

Many employers look for people who can speak a foreign language.
Only 25% of the world’s population speak English.

  • Language students have a greater chance of getting a place at university.
  • Linguists can earn more money.
  • Language graduates have a higher rate of employment than most other subjects except medicine and dentistry.
