The reward system is rooted in our school values, and is designed to encourage an excellent attitude to learning, community action and a desire for continual self-improvement.
There are different levels as students’ progress through the year groups from Year 7 to Year 13. From Year 7-11 students will be working towards a coloured tie: bronze, silver and gold. Students will ‘graduate’ through the levels; so as soon as they obtain a bronze or silver tie they begin collecting for the next level.
The Sixth Form work towards a Platinum Award. They receive a certificate and voucher in recognition of the full award. Certificates are also given for individual strands achieved. There is an additional ‘Outstanding Achievement’ Award for those who obtain the Platinum Award in Year 12 and continue to contribute across all strands to the school.
Rewards obtained in one year carried through from Year 7-11 if the tie has not yet been achieved. Reward certificates for meeting the criteria in a single strand can also be issued by Year Teams at the end of each school year to students who have not achieved the full award. The system re-starts when students begin in the 6th form, with rewards carried between Year 12 and 13.
To obtain a gold tie, not only do students need to meet the reward threshold, but should be recognised as a role model in school. It will be issued through discussion with the Year Team. Below Year 10, to obtain a gold tie students need to write a letter of application stating their reasons why they deserve the tie which will be given to their Head of Year for consideration. To obtain a Platinum Award, students also have to demonstrate leadership qualities.
If students obtain a gold tie, they should continue collecting rewards, which will be recognised through certificates and other opportunities. Gold Tie students will be encouraged to take on positions of responsibility or leadership. They can also work towards receipt of the Hart Award or Gillingham Town Council Youth Award.

Students may be participating within the wider community outside of school, we encourage students to let us know what they may be participating or volunteering in, so they can be rewarded for skills or their community work.
